John Mayer, the acclaimed singer-songwriter and guitarist behind modern classics like Gravity, Slow Dancing in a Burning Room, and Daughters, will perform in India for the very first time early next year. The concert, presented by BookMyShow Live, is set for January 22 at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse.
“India has long been on my list of places to play, not just for the vibrancy of its culture but for the way music lives in the everyday lives of people here. To finally perform in Mumbai feels both humbling and exhilarating,” Mayer, 47, said in a statement announcing the show.
Mayer rose to prominence in 2001 with his debut album Room for Squares, which went triple platinum and cemented him as one of the defining voices of his generation. While he began as a singer of heartfelt acoustic ballads, Mayer’s love of the blues — sparked as a teenager when he discovered Stevie Ray Vaughan — pushed him toward a genre-blending career that balances pop accessibility with virtuosic guitar work. His 2006 record Continuum is widely seen as a breakthrough in this fusion, showcasing his talents as both a songwriter and a guitarist.
Over the years, Mayer has collaborated with some of the world’s greatest musicians, from blues legends B.B. King and Buddy Guy to pop stars like Ed Sheeran. He has also served as lead guitarist and vocalist with Dead & Company, a project that introduced the music of The Grateful Dead to a new generation of fans.
Tickets for the Mumbai concert will open with an exclusive pre-sale for RuPay credit card holders at 12 p.m. IST on October 12, with general sales beginning October 14 at 1 p.m. IST.
