Continuing rain has left trail of destruction in various parts of Kerala.

The heavy rain that had been lashing Kerala, hitting normal life for the past few days, is likely to continue with strong westerlies prevailing over the State. The weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) retained the red alert issued for 11 districts in Kerala warning of extreme heavy rainfall and an orange alert for the remaining three districts – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha – warning of very heavy rains on Monday (May 26, 2025).
Meanwhile, the continuing rain has left trail of destruction in various parts of the State. The train services were disrupted on the Thrissur-Guruvayur route after a tree fell on the railway track in the heavy rain accompanied by gusty wind. The incident took place near Amala in Thrissur in the morning. The tree fell on the electric line on the railway track, disrupting the service along the route for about two hours.

A person went missing after being swept away by the currents in the northern part of Muvattupuzha. The person has been identified as as Job, 42, a native of Vallikada.
A car overturned in heavy rain in Ernakulam. The accident occurred at around 5:15 am on the flyover near Apollo Junction in Kalamassery. The passenger, James, a native of Kottayam, who was driving the vehicle in the accident, was injured.
A minor landslip occurred on the Ekarool-Kakkayam road, where the construction of the hilly highway is under way.
Due to heavy rains, all examinations scheduled for Monday (May 26) at the Cochin University of Science and Technology have been postponed. The revised date will be announced later.
Search resumes
The search for the missing youth in Kurutthichal, near Kumaramputhur, in Mannarkkad, Palakkad, has resumed. The youth, Mubin Murali, went missing after being swept away by the currents in the river. A group of 15 people, including Mubin and his friends, reached the area around 5:30 pm on Sunday.
Meanwhile, strong surface winds with speed reaching 50-60 kmph is likely to prevail over various parts of Kerala and Lakshadweep on Monday. Fishermen have been advised to not venture into the sea as squally weather with wind speed 35 kmph to 45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is prevailing along and off Kerala coasts.
High waves in the range of 3.3–4 meters are forecast along the coast of Kerala and hence fishermen have been advised not to ply small vessels near shores.
