The State government has decided to stop all revenue recovery proceedings with regard to all loans and arrears of the people of landslide-hit Vilangad, Narippatta, Thooneri, Valayam, Chekkiad, Thinoor, Edacheri, Vanimel, and Nadapuram in Kozhikode.
The order issued by the Principal Secretary (Revenue) on March 16 also declared a moratorium on the entire revenue recovery proceedings for a period of one year, unless otherwise notified by the government.
The order comes against the backdrop of reports that certain banks have deducted money from the accounts of homeless landslide survivors’ bank accounts, after the government had deposited financial aid from the relief fund. Over 100 people were rendered homeless in multiple landslides that hit the region on July 31, 2024, on the same night of the Mundakkai – Chooralmala tragedy in Wayanad.
