BJP Rajya Sabha MP and national OBC president K. Laxman has accused the Congress, DMK and BRS parties of practising ‘divisive politics’ between the North and South after having failed to divide the country in the name of caste and religion.
Addressing a press conference at the State office on Friday, he said that by opposing the delimitation process, which will be done by an independent commission as per the constitutional mandate, these parties seem to be opposing the likely increase in number of constituencies for the SC/ST and BCs post the exercise.
“The women’s quota will also be implemented once the delimitation process is completed after the census work is taken up next year. Are these parties and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy against it? How can they insist on adhering delimitation of the constituencies to the 1971 census. It was done by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as she had feared a defeat at the hustings then,” claimed the BJP leader.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had already sought to allay the fears of the Southern States by assuring that not a single Parliamentary seat will be reduced after the delimitation exercise. Yet, the Congress and other parties are taking up a ‘false narrative’ of Southern states likely to be marginalised after the reorganising of Lok Sabha constituencies, asserted Mr. Laxman.
The Congress and other parties like the DMK are raising the ‘bogey’ of delimitation to stoke regional passions and reap the political dividend since the State governments led by them whether in Telangana or in Tamil Nadu have ‘utterly failed’ to implement the promised guarantees, maintained the MP.
He demanded Mr. Revanth Reddy to first organise an all-party meeting to explain about why his government has failed to implement the guarantees promised before the State Assembly elections. “The Chief Minister has cheated the Telangana people by stating that he was ignorant of the financial position and debt before coming to power and hence, he is unable to implement the promises,” pointed out Mr. Laxman.
The MP accused Rahul Gandhi of being behind the entire show of Opposition parties ganging up against the Centre on the delimitation and against the Census, he charged and added that these parties are sure to pay a heavy price for their divisive stand.
