A marginalisation
There is a stark contrast in governance, media coverage and national concern regarding Manipur and the rest of India, and it is worth pondering over this. Had Manipur been located where Delhi is today, would its fate have been different? For months, Manipur has witnessed ethnic violence, displacement, and unrest. However, the urgency with which national issues are handled in Delhi stands in sharp contrast to the negligence often faced by States in the northeast. Unfortunately, the physical remoteness of Manipur translates into its marginalisation in the national discourse. This raises critical questions about the equity of governance and media prioritisation. Are some States more “Indian” than others? It is time we bridge this gap, in governance and in perception. Every region deserves equal attention, empathy, and action.

Syed Abid Ali
As a school student, I have watched Syed Abid Ali at the Gagan Mahal playground playing for All Saints High School, Abids, Hyderabad. Though talented, he could not get an early enough chance to play for India as there was severe competition among Hyderabad players. As Sunil Gavaskar has said, “He was a thorough gentleman….” We will miss a great cricketer known for Hyderabadi ‘Tameez’.
