Heavy trucks used for delivering construction materials for national highway (NH) widening works have been exempted from the regulations imposed on tipper lorries during daytime. The decision will apply to trucks carrying loads above 12,000 kg.
The vehicles will have to display stickers obtained from the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) for easy identification. The registration numbers of vehicles used by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will be submitted to the RTO.
According to NHAI officials, restrictions on daytime tipper lorry services have hindered the timely delivery of construction materials for highway widening works. They said lorry operators were forced to suspend services during the morning and evening hours when work was in full swing.
The relaxations in rules were approved at a district-level meeting attended by police and Transport department officials. District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh chaired the meeting. The decision will be revoked in case of any public complaints.
