The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended 13 Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, in north Tripura on Thursday. Two border touts, one from Assam, were also arrested for escorting the infiltrators.

The detainees from four families are residents of Sunamganj, Brahmanbaria, Moulavi Bazar and Netrokona districts in Bangladesh. They are all Hindus and share the surname ‘Das’, sources said.

Troops of the 199th battalion of the BSF intercepted a couple of autorickshaws near the Samarupara Border outpost in Panisagar, North Tripura. The 13 Bangladeshi nationals were found travelling in the autos, accompanied by two Indian men who were also caught.

The BSF identified Indian men as border touts who allegedly facilitate infiltration for money. The BSF later handed them over to the police for further legal proceedings.

The detention of Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingya refugees has now become a regular occurrence at border locations, railway stations and bus terminals of Tripura.
