Demi Moore took home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role at the 2025 SAG Awards, using her acceptance speech to reflect on the significance of human connection in acting.
Moore, who won for her performance in The Substance, recalled receiving her SAG card as a teenager in 1978, calling it a “deeply meaningful” milestone in her career. Addressing her fellow actors, she expressed gratitude for the lessons she has learned throughout her decades in the industry.
“You have all been my greatest teachers, and I am so, so grateful that I have continued over these so many years to be able to try — and sometimes succeed and sometimes fail — but to be able to keep going,” she said.
She also offered words of encouragement to those still finding their way in the profession. “As these actors who are having to do it all, I just encourage you, don’t lose sight of the human connection,” Moore said. “That’s the work that we do. It’s to be connected to one another.”
Moore triumphed in a competitive category that included Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), and Mikey Madison (Anora). Last year, the award went to Lily Gladstone for Killers of the Flower Moon. Colin Farrell presented the award.
The win further strengthens Moore’s momentum in the Best Actress race for the upcoming Academy Awards. She has already secured victories at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards, making her a strong contender. Meanwhile, Gascón, who did not attend the ceremony, has faced recent controversy over resurfaced social media posts.
