Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) is planning to build two major metro stations at Bahadurguda and Pedda Golconda on the 40 km Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) to Future City route to facilitate the development of about 1,500 acres of government land available in the area as a world-class metro hub.
The metro route from the RGIA will start from the airport terminal, pass alongside the proposed metro rail depot, follow the boundary wall of the airport for about five kilometres along the Mansanpally Road to reach Pedda Golconda ORR Exit, informed managing director N.V.S. Reddy on Sunday.
From Pedda Golconda Exit, the metro route will continue as an elevated metro line for about 14 kilometres along the ORR to Tukkuguda Exit and then to Raviryala Exit. From Raviryala Exit to the under-construction Skill University at Meerkhanpet, the route will be developed via Kongara Kalan, Lemur, Timmapur, Rachalur, Gummadavelli and Panjaguda as ‘At Grade’ metro rail corridor on the road surface in the 22 metre-wide ( 72 feet) central part of the 100 metre-wide (328 feet) Green Field Road being constructed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, he said.
The metro rail will be at the same level in the middle of this broad road, with three-lane main carriage ways on both sides and additional service roads adjacent to the main carriage way as per the suggestions made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The plan is to reach the Future City in 40 minutes from the RGIA, he said, after a field inspection with top officials trekking the hillocks on foot since Kongara Kalan does not have a road crossing towards preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
The CM’s vision is to develop green corridors for the Future City, with a swift and easy access from the airport. The metro rail corridor will play an important role in developing the 15,000 acres in the region which will be joining Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Cyberabad cities, said the MD, in an official release.
Infrastructure projects initiated by the present government like the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and first phase of metro rail during the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s government too will ensure a brighter future for Hyderabad/ Telangana. HAML will be working together with HMDA, Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation and others to realise these new plans. DPRs for the Future City Metro Corridor, along with North City Medchal and Shamirpet corridors, will be completed by March-end and submitted to the Central government after approval of the State government, he added in the release.
