All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Sunday (January 19, 2025) criticised the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government over the recent chain-snatching incidents reported in Chennai and said Chief Minister M.K. Stalin should take responsibility over the recurring incidents.

Mr. Palaniswami charged there was no safety for not just common women but also policewomen under the DMK government in Tamil Nadu. In a social media post, he referred to eight chain-snatching incidents reported in Chennai and Tambaram Police Commissionerates in one day.

In one of the incidents, a chain was snatched from a woman police sub-inspector attached to the Greater Chennai Police. “The former CM termed the incident “shocking”. The women losing their gold chains were only indicative of the “helplessness” of the government,” he charged.

“It is a shame that even policewomen are not able to move around with safety in Tamil Nadu. The DMK government should hang its head in shame,” Mr. Palaniswami charged and further demanded that the CM should take responsibility over such incidents.

“Besides bringing those responsible over these chain snatching incidents to book, the DMK government should focus on maintaining the law and order,” the former CM insisted.
