Nagarjunasagar irrigation project on Krishna in Nalgonda district continues to get heavy inflows from Srisailam project as the authorities lifted all the 26 gates to discharge 2.64 lakh cusecs of flood water downstream.
According to flood data issued by the irrigation department officials on Thursday, the inflow into the reservoir was 2.02 lakh cusecs and the outflow stood at 2.82 lakh cusecs at 8 a.m. The water level in the project stood at 585.20 feet as against the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 590 feet. As against the 312 tmcft capacity, the reservoir capacity as on this morning was recorded at 298 tmcft.
Apart from releasing water from the 26 gates, officials also discharged water into the Nagarjunasagar right and left canals.
It may be mentioned here that the spillway discharge of flood at one of the two common reservoirs for the Telugu States — Nagarjunasagar project — commenced early this season on Tuesday (July 29, 2025), eight days in advance compared to last year. The water was released in July after 18 years. Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy performed ‘pooja’ before the lifting of crest gates.
